So I got back from the last auto-save, but still no one was talking, although they should have been speaking about Kodlak's death. the only option was talking to Farkas for a job.

Looks like they forgot to turn spellcheck off. After completing the quest they weren't quest items anymore, so I could remove them from my inventory, which I did. Not sure if this is a glitch or intended behavior, but when I did this quest last night I had cleared out the Glenmoril Coven, so I had 5 witch heads in my inventory, all quest items.
